On Wednesday 26th of March our beloved Bobby crossed to the Rainbow bridge aged 15 years, 5 months and 15 days.
Bobby was the only surviving puppy out of our Rosie, being a singleton , Bob had the whole milk bar to himself and very soon made full use of it. Growing at an alarming rate, Bob was struck down with an upset tummy at 2 weeks, which the vet tried to cure to no avail. On our third trip to see him he said " I cant even believe this pup has a bad gut, he has doubled in size in two days, he should be losing not gaining!" And that was the problem, Bobby was being over fed! To counteract this we had to feed him boiled water every two hours to fill his belly and stop him taking in so much milk. It cured him! Thus his kennel club name was found " Quintrelle Milky Bar Kid.
At 4 weeks Bob should have been walking but wasn't. Due to his great bulk he could only drag himself by the front legs giving him the look of a "swimmer". To counteract this my friend and I took him out of the whelping box every couple of hours, put him on the roughest old piece of blanket for traction, held his back feet in place and "made" him walk. By 10 months Bobby was winning Best Puppy of Breed on a regular basis and the judges comment was always the same" he has outstanding movement."
Bobbys puppy wins progressed to adult wins with over 30 Best of Breeds, so many Group placings and a Best in Show under his belt, he was finally retired at 12 with his Best Veterans also notched up.
Bob loved to swim and would fetch sticks readily. One day, he saw a surfer enter the sea carrying his board, that was it, game on, he was gone! Out to sea he swam with me chasing after him yelling until the surfer spotted him, turned him round and sent him back to shore. Bob was most miffed not to have fetched back the biggest stick of all!
Another time we went camping in Wales on the edge of a lake, Bob sat on the front of the canoe like a figurehead whilst our David paddled him round the lake. He never even attempted to leap off, just sat there as smug as could be!
In his lifetime Bob was only used a couple of times at stud, one mating of which produced our lovely little Ellie May . Ellie went on to produce a lovely little daughter called Quintrelle Kristorg ( Milly) who is owned by Cathy Franks and Cathmead Cavaliers, she went on to become her foundation bitch so Bobbys legacy lives on through her.
I could spend all night writing on here of the things Bob did, the wins, the student friends he made as a university dog, the wonderful times he shared, but it still wouldn't be long enough or space enough so capture the essence of him, you would have to have met him to do that.
Rest in Peace Bobby, to know you was to love you, you are at the Rainbow Bridge now, just this side of heaven waiting for the day you are reunited with us or Nancy to cross the bridge together. Frolic my friend and enjoy your new life, your pain is over and your eyes are once more bright. Look for the flowers and butterflies and there you will find your soul mate, the original Jenny.
We will never forget you.
