Millie, known and loved by so many people is also known as Litty Puppy.
Millie made her arrival into the world on February 29th 2008 so being a leap year baby there is no doubt she will stay a puppy for a very very long time indeed!
Born naturally out of Maisette and Harvey, Millie was a lively full of mischief puppy. At 8 weeks she had her first round of injections and all was well. At 12 weeks she had her second round and we hit trouble BIG TIME! First of all her neck swelled , this was soon followed by a seizure. Initially these problems were thought to be due to a bite or sting and she was treated as such however a few days later Millie had two more massive seizures and was rushed in to the veterinary hospital for intensive care. Being classed now as “ A case in question” by the drugs company, Millie was soon hooked up to drips etc and had many tests to try and prove that something other than the injections had caused the problem. They were unable to prove this. Without admitting liability the drugs company paid half of the vet bill!
Fortunately our baby came through this ordeal extremely well and is now heading towards 11 months old never having shown any signs for what she went through and never having to be medicated at all. Long may it stay that way! We have learned a huge lesson from this episode and now strongly advocate not injecting pups before the age of 10 weeks, particularly if the puppy is very small, hence Millies’ nick name of Litty Puppy. Everyone who saw her after her troubles kept saying, “ She is so little, she is just a litty puppy, and the name stuck!
Now that Litty is old enough to be shown she has done a couple of companion shows and a club match to ease her in to things. To her credit she has already won Best in Show and Reserve Best Puppy In Match. Her most recent win was at Dorchester Canine Society Open show where she took Best Puppy in Breed and third in Puppy Group. Many thanks to the judges.
Ever since Millie was made ill after her injections she was taken everywhere with us. As our little Grand Daughter Evie was living with us at the time Millie spent a good couple of hours every day riding round in the pram tucked in next to Evie. There is only four weeks in age between them so this of course caused a stir every where we went.
Evie and Millie have become the firmest of friends and spend a huge amount of time playing together.
After a lot of thought and persuason we have come to the decision that when my daughters dog Bob dies and goes to the Rainbow Bridge , Millie will go and live with her family. The house is exactly 100 paces from ours, we will see Millie every day and I will continue to show her. Initially it was supposed to be Jenny who became their dog but the bond between baby and puppy is so strong now that we cant bear to separate them.
